I’m feeling very excited… Tonight I am running the prototype of my very first Webinar!
Way back in the early days of the Internet, I was a bit of a geek. Actually, I’ve probably been a bit of a geek for longer than that… I’ve just remembered I used to go to Computer Club at lunchtimes in the Sixth Form, and use BBC Basic to make random lines appear on the computer screen.
Anyway… in the year 2000 (or Y2K as we called it then) I did an online Post Graduate Certificate course with the Open University. This was about Open and Distance Learning, and was a glimpse into the future.
We learned about how:
- In the future people would use the internet to learn about whatever they wanted to know.
- In the future, knowledge would be available on demand, when ever people wanted it, 27/7
- In the future you could learn remotely from wherever in the world you happened to be living.
Mind Blown.
So now, 27 years later, I am finally in the future, and I am finally creating some online courses!
I am starting with a Webinar, called “How to get your team to do what you want them to do (with a smile)”. (I may have to change the name!)
I’m testing it out tonight on some willing participants, then I hope to make it widely available very soon.
I am also designing some really interesting masterclasses and intensive online programmes.
And I will be announcing an exciting collaboration soon.
Oh my, I feel so giddy! OK, I have the technology sorted, my notes are ready, and all I need now is to figure out how to stop this happening:
***Update: It went really well! A few teething problems – I need to make sure that everybody has software downloaded beforehand, and I need more practice using the controls, but the actual content was good, and I think I presented pretty well. Hooray!
