As well as teaching about being a Nice Boss, I am a Nice Boss…
I own this business: Beeston Nursery, and last year we filmed a prestigious TV programme with Channel 4, “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds”.
You can watch the replays here (we were in Series 2):
The programme was amazing, and has been very influential in the UK.
It was about bringing the older and younger generations together and the positive changes it can bring for both.
It was heart-warming, ground-breaking and and I feel very privileged to have been able to make this happen for my team, the children and their families.
And now it has been nominated for a BAFTA… that’s a BAFTA…. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts… it’s the UK Oscars!!! 😁🙌🤞🥂🍾🤩
The awards ceremony is on 12th May, so I’ll be watching on the edge of my seat. It would be amazing to win this, but to be honest the whole experience has been amazing.
It was brilliant to be selected by Channel 4 to take part in this series. I had watched the previous one and loved it.
It was a big decision to allow the producers to meet with the children and families at nursery, and to help the parents and carers to decide whether to audition for the show.
It was heartbreaking supporting the families who didn’t make it to the final few. Especially those who came incredibly close.
It was nerve-wracking being on standby to release a member of staff for 10 whole weeks, with only a few days’ notice.
It was hard work covering at the nursery and still leading the team with the disruption of filming schedules, at the busiest time of the year.
It was wonderful to see Scarlett and Phoenix have amazing experiences, but also emotional ones. And strange that we didn’t know how the final edit would come out.
It was very strange keeping such a big secret, and trying to act casual when we had a Channel 4 film crew at my nursery 😂🤐🤫
It was fab how my team did me proud and never complained about disruption or having to cover for colleagues.
It was very strange seeing our children and families on “This Morning” and in the newspapers. I loved that Tim, Scarlett’s Daddy tried to mention Beeston Nursery as often as he could 😂
Ultimately it was fantastic to see the very real difference that taking part in the show has had on all the people who took part. The older people, the young children, their families… the friendships are real and continuing today 💖
